Sell it with usThe Rolex Submariner first received crown guards in 1959 with the introduction of the ref. 5512. The first iteration was very square and made accessing the crown difficult. These evolved to the ‘Eagle’s beak’ style which was the same with more rounded corners.
The first change in the overall design was the ‘Pointed’ crown guards giving more space to the crown. These were used for a single year at the launch of the 5513 in 1962 before evolving again. This makes a ‘Pointed Crown Guard’ case a sought-after rarity.
The watch is powered by the automatic calibre 1530, non-chronometer rated to differentiate it from the now ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ 5512.
This watch is offered in overall good condition with a box but no papers. The case is in good condition and shows signs of polishing. It has wear to the crown guards and a scratch to the end of one lug. The bezel has light scratches as does the crystal.
The dial is later non-gilt service replacement. The hands and dial show even colour to the luminous material. The case back has minor marks. The watch is mounted on a non- Rolex leather strap with shows light wear marks and creasing.
