The Calatrava originated in 1932 and is the longest-running model line in Patek Philippe’s catalogue. It is characterised by simple, time-only functionality and a round case, which is true of the watch presented here. Collectors have dubbed it the ‘Disco Volante’ based on the distinctive case shape, which resembles a flying saucer.

Fashioned from 18-carat yellow gold, the case measures 36mm and has an attractive stepped bezel. Applied yellow gold dart-shaped hour markers and dauphine styled hands contrast nicely with the silvery-white dial. Running seconds are displayed at 6 o’clock.

Inside the case beats Patek Philippe’s first automatic mechanical movement. Reference 12-600 contains 30 jewels, bi-directional winding, and a free-sprung balance.

The watch is in good condition, showing some wear consistent with age. It comes on a black leather strap and a later generation Patek Philippe box.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
